It’s December and it’s the most wonderful time of the year for so many reasons – Winter fashion, crisp mornings, a bunch of festivities, parties, Christmas and of course, giving and receiving presents. What’s not to love? One thing you have been asking me to do for a long time, is a blog post on my beauty routine and because it’s Winter, and our skin needs that added TLC I thought it would be a great time to show you what I’ve been using.
I have recently collaborated with Fragrance Direct and the best thing about being an influencer is having the opportunity to not only work with some amazing brands (Fragrance Direct being one of these), but it allows you to try things you wouldn’t ordinarily try. This was no exception. With my skin, I have always been really open-minded with testing out new products and changing my beauty routine. I’ve never been one of those people that stick to the same brand for years and years. Why? Because not only do I feel like I would be missing out, but our skin actually becomes used to the products we use and it’s a really good idea to mix it up and swap products every six months or so.
While some of you may know, and for those that don’t, I have actually got a diploma in makeup and beauty. The opportunity arose a few years ago when I worked at a beauty salon (primarily doing social media) and I jumped on it more than anything because I am genuinely fascinated with skincare and makeup as a whole and knew it would be really beneficial.
My skin is normal/dry and I have found that by using both a day and a night moisturiser it is so much more hydrated which during the cold months comes in super handy. Currently I am using the Estée Lauder Day Wear and Elemis Hydra-Nourish Night Cream. I have found both of these to be highly nourishing and they leave my skin feeling luminous. In terms of removing makeup, one thing I have always been taught is to steer clear of face wipes – if you are prone to spots (which I luckily don’t tend to be) then you need to be using a cleanser based remover and apply this with separate cotton wool pads. Since using the Estée Lauder Take It Away my face feels so much fresher. I then follow this by using a cleanser – removing your makeup isn’t enough – you need to ensure you have got rid of any excess makeup! Because of my skin type, I always get hydrating cleansers and the Estée Lauder Re-Nutriv Foam Cleanser is a god-send. My final step is to use the Elemis Hydra-Nourish Night Cream and Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Eye Balm - nobody wants tired looking eyes do they!
In the morning, I repeat the routine (minus the makeup remover of course) and follow this up by using a hydrating face primer – my favourite is Becca Backlight Priming Filter. When it comes to contour and blush I have just started using the Nars The Multiple Bronzer (shade Tuomota) and Nars Dual Intensity Blush (shade Adoration). I have found these to work really well together. If you are looking for a sun-kissed, natural look these are a must-have.
It has only been in the last few months that I have started using a finishing powder and I honestly can’t believe how long it’s taken me to get one! For those of you that want a luminous, highlighted finish, but don’t want your makeup to slide off your face – a finishing powder is your answer. I have been using the Bobbi Brown Brightening Finishing Powder and it really does do all of what it promises – instantly illuminates, gives a natural glow and adds durability to your makeup.
When it comes to eyebrows, one thing I hate is heavily drawn on eyebrows – I much prefer a natural look. Let’s be honest, we all strive for the Cara Delevigne style brows, if only we could wake up and walk out without having to lift a finger – but the truth is, mine aren’t there yet. Two products I have been using and find perfect to achieve this look are the Bobbi Brown Brow Kit and Bobbi Brown Natural Brow Shaper and Hair Touch Up. The great thing is, if you use these, you won’t be wasting half an hour every morning but instead this routine will take you a few minutes!
